Maggie Maloney

Welcome to art at Falling Branch Elementary!  My name is Maggie Maloney and I teach visual art at FBE. This will be my 9th year teaching art with Montgomery County Public Schools! I am so honored to be a part of a wonderful team of educators at Falling Branch Elementary School.

I committed to graduate from Blacksburg High School in 2001. While at BHS, I was active in both music and art.  I worked very hard to take additional classes so that I could travel abroad to Germany my senior year of high school and still graduate on time. From there began my love of studying other cultures and their art! I knew I wanted to study more and go to college.

After high school, I committed to graduate from James Madison University in 2005. At JMU I applied myself to both studio art and art history. I still had the travel bug and decided to study abroad again, this time to Florence, Italy. My education and traveling opened my eyes to a diverse world rich in art!

Not long after graduating from JMU, I realized I wanted to make art and education a part of my daily life. I went back to school and attended Mary Baldwin College to complete my teacher’s licensure. After a few years,  I wanted even more information about teaching art, and committed to a master’s degree in art education from Boston University. Through my master’s, I was again able to travel (this time within the U.S.!) and I met art teachers from all over the country. What an inspiration! Now it is my turn to help my little artists, my students, reach their dreams!

I now live in Christiansburg with my husband, son and daughter, two dogs, and Siamese cat. In my spare time I love to spend time with my family and learn new things about art. I also love to hike, run, travel, read and make art.

I look forward to a fantastic year of creating with you! There are big changes happening in the art room, so be sure to visit our art webpage to see pictures and learn more about art at FBE!
