April Boutwell-Tomlin
2012 FBE Teacher of the Year
I committed to graduate from West Florida Baptist Academy in
sunny Florida. I lived in Alabama but went to school in another state.
Weird! I know. My hometown Flomaton, Alabama, is located just minutes
from the Florida line. It was cool to live and go to high school in two
different states.
After I graduated from high school, I
committed to graduate from the University of Alabama. Roll Tide Roll!
Since my family members are BIG Crimson Tide fans, it was a dream come
true for me to attend this wonderful place. I graduated from UA with a
Bachelor’s in Psychology and Child Development.
I wanted to
fulfill my dream of teaching elementary school, so I committed to
graduate again from the University of West Florida. Being so close to
the white sands of Pensacola Beach was a little distracting, but I was
able to complete a Master’s in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.
Teaching 1st
grade is my passion. I am so glad that I have a job that I enjoy each
day. I live with my husband, Patrick, and my son, Grayson, in
Blacksburg, Virginia. We love spending time together outdoors. Some of
our favorite things are hiking, going to the river, and playing with
our pets. We have one dog, Maggie, two cats, Daisy and Lily, two hermit
crabs, Midnight and Jellyfish, and five Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches
named Darryl.
