Amy Greer-Knowles

Hi! My name is Amy Greer-Knowles. I teach first grade. Teaching first grade is a lot of fun and hard work. Before I became a first grade teacher I had to be a student, too!

First, I committed to graduate from Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg, West Virginia in 1981. Go Spartans! I loved school and was very busy. My favorite activity as a Spartan was playing on the tennis team. My teammates and I were very good friends and we worked hard to play the best we could. During my senior year my team went undefeated, 11-0, and won Regions. Tennis in high school was a relatively new sport then and we won at the highest possible level we could. We were the first to put a tennis trophy in the trophy case at my school. My doubles partner and I also went undefeated. Hard work definitely pays off! My Dad was the boys’ basketball coach at my high school as well. I loved cheering on my Dad’s team all through my high school years. Now, my first graders and I cheer and support the Christiansburg Blue Demon boys’ basketball team.

Next, I committed to graduate from Concord College (now Concord University) in Athens, West Virginia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1985. Now, I have twin daughters who attend CU and run for the Mountain Lions. You’ve probably seen them running around Christiansburg! They ran for 6 years as a Christiansburg Blue Demon. Running is their life and they worked so hard to be their best that now they have committed to run in college. Go Mountain Lions!

Lastly, I committed to graduate from Radford University in Radford, Virginia in 1989 with a Master of Science Degree in Learning Disabilities. Go Highlanders!

In 2011, I committed to achieving certification by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Today, I am committed to providing my first graders with great instruction and to make learning fun!

I met my husband at Concord and we live in Christiansburg. Together, we enjoy traveling to cheer on our twins wherever they are competing. I also enjoy cheering on the Christiansburg Blue Demons, reading, gardening, kayaking, camping, and sewing.
